"The current food that we've gradually transitioned over to is Nutro's Natural Choice Ultra Adult http://www.nutroproducts.com/ncuad.asp do to the fact that it has Glucosamine (min) 450 mg/kg within it to maintain healthy joints."
I was never great in math unless there was a dollar sign in front of the number <G>
If I am reading this correctly, there is 450 mg of Glucosamine in a kilogram. I believe there is 2.2 kilograms in a pound...to make it easy let's round it off to an even two kilograms per pound, so, there would be 900 mg of Glucosamine in a pound? The current food I am feeding weighs a little over two ounces per cup. The most I feed any of my dogs (weighing 60 to 95 pounds) is four cups or about a half a pound per day. If I have done my math correctly (if this product weighs about the same as the food I use), my dogs would be getting only 450 mg of glucosamine per day. My older dogs, the ones that would benefit the most from Glucosamine eat only half of this (two cups per day/4 ounces) or would only get 225 mg per day!
The WDJ suggests the following dosages of Glucosamine per day:
20-45 pounds 500 mg 45-90 pounds 1000 mg more than 90 pounds 1500 mg
If you are concerned about the benefits of supplementing with Glucosamine and if I have done my math correctly, I would strongly suggest you not rely on the dogs food as a source. My dogs always eat less in the spring/summer, more in the fall/winter months and some days they will leave food in their bows. I Also certainly don't want to feed my mature dogs more food because they will get more glucosamine! Just a thought

I feed Chicken Soup Brand for all my dogs. Very little waste to pick up in the yard and they love to eat it. First two ingredients are Chicken and Turkey with no cornmeal, 24 to 14 isnt bad either. The puppy formual is really great with a 28 to 17 ratio. I was on Royal canin, but did not like the coats on my dogs with that food, plus the adult formual has cornmeal. Chris

We switched to Diamond Large Breed puppy rice / lamb Besides the yard waste.... we both seem to be happy, nice coat, happy dog.
She (Chevy the Chessie) supplements her dog food with Cat Poop from the neighbors barn mongrels.................

We feed Blue Buffalo Large Breed Adult. 1st ingredient is chicken and chicken meal, also has no corn, soy or wheat and let me tell you thank god for that as those ingredients cause bad gas in my chessie. His coat looks great and he sheds less and less yard clean-up.
